February 2008 – Whittington ECO day
Sunny weather can be misleading.
We found out at the last minute that we were to be dancing
outdoors. Bob was quoted as closing
with ‘we are finished now and we are all going to find a deep freezer to
warm up’.
Nevertheless the side gave a very good showing with, for the first time
in a long while, the complete show of border, clog and rapper. A frozen audience seemed to appreciate
it but we are not sure whether the clapping was just to warm their hands up.
We are fortunate that we have acquired a bag of ‘homing
sticks’ which eventually found their way to Linda’s office.
2 March 2008 – Full Practice Kings Bromley
With a good turnout we still managed to dance 16 Border, 3 Clog, 1
Longsword, 2 Rapper and a Jig. Thereafter we concluded business and
still got to the pub on time!
Potentially we could provide a program which would keep going until the
last audience member was completely sick of Morris Dancing – two dances?
8 & 9 March 2008 – Dert Liverpool
Our intrepid band made it to the competition where we danced in six pubs
and on the main stage at the end.
For those who saw the practice at the start it was a wonder that we
managed at all! Only one mistake in
all of our show dances which Peter Diffy brilliantly spotted and untangled.
Wisely we did not compete but danced as an exhibition side. At least we gave the other teams a
chance!
Cold and damp but did the members of the side complain? Course they did. Nevertheless we had an enjoyable day and
hope to return to the venue soon.
Given some warmth and sunshine it would be wonderful.
A good turn out ensured a good show. The one or two who watched it seemed to
enjoy it.
A good turnout ensured a good show on Saturday, a bit less of one on
Sunday and a few people left on Monday.
The pirate parade gained plenty of favorable comment with a notable
parrot pleasing the crowd. The
weather was mixed but everything went ahead to schedule and a good time was had
by all. The Star terrace became
home and the combination of plenty of space and good beer met the very humble
requirements of the side.
They do a very good festival at
We were very lucky to get some quite passable weather amongst some
miserable surrounding ones.
We danced two spots with full complement of Border, Clog and Rapper the
first one being to a large and enthusiastic audience. We were also presented wih a composite
picure of the Rabble taken the previous year which was much appreciated.
This booking is a very popular event with rabble members and we hope we
are invited there again next year
24 & 25 May
– Sword Spectacular
A wonderful weekend was had by the sword team with cloggies also in full
shout. Dancing in a variety of
spots around the town on both Saturday and Sunday taking turns with sides from
all over the world was an experience not to be missed.
The weather was sunny but very windy and the camp site in a local
secondary school enjoyed howling gales throughout. This made for interesting camping
Due to the unavailability of the practice room in Kings Bromley we
donned full kit and returned to Barton which is very close to us and very
welcoming.
Although we enjoyed considerably better weather we performed a full show
during which, if the friends of the side were discounted, we significantly
outnumbered our audience. Still, it
was a practice and there is no practice for performing a show as good as
performing a show.
A fantastic weekend shared with a number of other sides where the event
and hospitality were excellent.
To top it all Adrienne walked off with the best ‘presenter’
award and the side with the best side award. We know we are good but it is nice to be
appreciated.
21 June –
A good turnout from the side had us dancing in the town and covering for
a lack of sides at the Cathedral. Every time we finished we looked over to the
compare who asked us to carry on.
An enjoyable day with plenty of interest.
A good opportunity to join in a fund raiser for a worthwhile cause.
Wonderful setting although not many people there. Judging by the difficulty we had getting
in we think we know why!
13 July –
A subset of the side still managed to provide a full show including
border, rapper, clog and jigs.
We seemed to be appreciated and were instantly invited to the next one!
Too busy to take pictures
19 July – Sutton Station Hotel and Private Wedding
A good outing for the side as we did two venues within walking distance
of each other.
The regulars of the Station Hotel were a bit puzzled as to what was
going on but, there again, so were we – no change there!
The wedding was a wonderful bit of fun with good food. More weddings please
28 November – Tutbury Christmas Fair/Fayre/Phare
Cold and dark but hey, its Christmas. Danced in the street to an appreciative
crowd and then……..
Danced in the institute – Warm and bright to a captive audience.
Excellent yums at Teresa and Robin’s afterwards
6 December –
Mabel Gubbins Oxford
A splendid day with warm hospitality from Mabel Gubbins and friendship
and fun with the other sides.
We danced reasonably well and seemed to be appreciated
